Respectable Sins – Chapter 13 – “Lack of Self-Control”
Proverbs 25:28 – A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

  • Self-control is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
  •  Other verses: 2 Timothy 3:3, Titus 2:2, 5, 6, 11-12; 1 Peter 1:13, 4:7, 5:8

Self-control – the governance or prudent control of one’s desires, cravings, impulses, emotions, and passions

  •  Biblical self-control is not a product of one’s own natural will-power (1 Peter 2:11

Four areas of application [a tendency to indulge our desires so that they control us, instead of our controlling our
desires]

  •  Eating and drinking
  • Temper [Proverbs 14:7, 16:32; James 1:19]
  • Personal finances
  •  Technology
